Cancellation of Relays

The Cross-Country Relays to be organised by Heanor Running Club on Saturday September 14th have been cancelled. No reason as of yet has been given for the cancellation.

Malt Shovel Relays

There was a good response from Belper Harriers for the second Malt Shovel Relays held last Thursday. The club had four teams running in the event, two men’s and two mixed teams over a two mile course of both road and off-road. Our Men’s ‘A’ team of Ed James, Sean Ollier and Jack Dakin finished runners up to a strong team from North Derbyshire. The two mixed teams ran each other close with Simon Edwards, Steffi Edwards, Simon’s eldest daughter and Steve Meath just piping Steff Ilsley, Andy Dakin and Simon Hackett by 23 seconds. Our fourth team was the Men’s ‘B’ team consisting of Geoff Stone, Len Foulks and Dave Chadwick. Well done to all our runners who performed excellently on a pleasant late summer evening in an attractive part of the county.

Midland Counties 6-Stage Relays

The names have come in for this event and we shall be fielding just a Men’s team at Sutton Park on Saturday September 21st.

Training

Unfortunately the nights are drawing in and the darker nights will soon be upon us, so as to try and keep a bit of variety in training, both Tuesdays and Thursdays we are looking for a few ideas from the membership. The 10k Handicaps will continue and possibly a Winter Special and for Thursdays a trip once a month to the track at Ilkeston. So if anyone has any suggestions for winter training lets hear please.

Final Summer Special

This will be next Tuesday September 10th from the Hilltop Pub Belper. More information will be available later this week.

Firstly, thanks to Ian for a lovely Sunday morning run. Nine runners all dragged themselves out of bed, with not a regret amongst us, as Carsington was beautiful shrouded in wispy early-morning mist. And back home for a bacon and black pudding sandwich before anyone realised I’d gone.

Malc asked for suggestions on winter runs. I think that there’s a quite a few who’d enjoy an occasional headtorch run off road. Not everyone’s cup of tea, I know, but I think that we have enough runners on a Tuesday to make it worth having off road and on-road groups once in a while. If pre-planned, then we can come prepared.

Yes Dave. I think we will try and do these on a semi regular basis, perhaps the Tuesday when we train down Ilkeston on the Thursday?
