DECEMBER 10K HANDICAP RACE
The final 10K Handicap of the year was attended by around 35 Harriers on Tuesday evening. Of these, 24 ran in the event while others went out for an untimed run along the course.
Four runners set new PB’s for the River Gardens course: Sarah Holme (4 seconds) – despite feeling under the weather!: Dawn Bradshaw (1:15 mins); Sam Horton (45 seconds), and Chris Jackson (28 seconds). Chris’s new mark was of particular note, as this was his third consecutive PB this season – having knocked 20 seconds off in October and a further 46 seconds last month! I’m sure he will have been delighted with his achievement.
As the first six runners across the line had run off adjusted or estimated handicaps, the race winner on the night was DAWN BRADSHAW, who dipped under the 60 minute barrier with 59:52. Dawn certainly looked shocked when presented with the winner’s trophy after the race! In second place SAM HORTON edged ever closer to the 50 minute threshold with a 50:52 PB. Considering that Sam is just 12 years old, his performance was exceptional… and I’m sure his Dad felt very proud afterwards!
The quickest time of the night was run by PHIL CONROY. His 39:00 mins was one of just three sub-40 times this month. On the ladies side SAMYA ARMOUSH’S 45:37 was the fastest by almost 4 minutes.
Once again, there were a significant number of new runners making their Handicap debuts this month… Chris, Jonathan, Andy, Adam, Linda and Vicki… who all now have a marker to improve upon in 2011. Chris Hawley’s notable 40:07 debut placed him 4th in the rankings on the night.
And finally, thanks very much to Paul and Steph for their assistance at the finish line and to Malc for marshalling at the halfway turn. Thanks also to Steve and the staff at the Dev for looking after us again after the race.
I will confirm the date of the January Handicap once I’ve completed the club nights training schedule for 2011
