BDL Race 1 – TUESDAY 19th APRIL – Denby

Just a reminder that the first in the BDL Summer Series of races takes place this Tuesday (19th April) from Denby – hosted by Belper Harriers.

Venue: Denby Pottery Visitor Centre, Derby Road, Denby, Derbyshire, DE5 8NX

Start time: 7:15pm

Distance: 5.3 miles

Course: Multi-terrain on pavements and public bridleways. (See attached map)

Facilities: Free parking/ Toilets/ Water

Location: On the B6179 between Ripley and Kilburn. (Look for the brown road signs).  Click on the link to Google map below. (Or enter the above postcode into Googlemaps if the link doesn’t work)

This course will be as last year: i.e. out and back on pavements, with 2 laps of a 1.3 mile trail loop in the middle. The only change is that I’ve been able to move the start line back by around 85m, allowing a longer run in before the pavement section along the main road. (This initial section of the course is relatively narrow for the volume of runners expected – although no more so than at Nutbrook or Carsington!).

Please be aware that, as last year, a 250m section on the off-road loop will be a little more challenging to negotiate than the rest of course. (Although we have improved it significantly as part of the course clearance work on Saturday). However, this should not cause a safety issue if runners take extra care on this section.  Parking will be in the Denby Pottery Visitor Centre car park, which is approximately 500m from the start/finish point. Direction signs to the start will be displayed in the car park.  The Visitor Centre toilets will be made available for our use. A useful warm up track (which will be highlighted on the course map) will be accessible from the start area.

Finally, for the many runners who enjoy a post-race drink, there is an ideal venue just half a mile from the finish line. (Lumb Farm). The landlady may put on some food in anticipation of reasonable numbers! The directions are: Turn right out of the Visitor Centre car park and head up the road towards Ripley. Just after the 30mph ramp – and directly opposite the Vauxhall garage – turn right into the driveway, which leads directly up to the pub car park.

See you on Tuesday.
