To all Harriers,
The third installment of the 5 race BDL Summer series takes place on Tuesday 14th June from Shipley Park Visitors Centre near Heanor. (See combined course map and location map attached). The race will start at 7-30pm and be run on a trail course of approximately 4.5 to 5 miles. If you’re not making your own way there, PLEASE MEET AT BELPER LEISURE CENTRE CAR PARK (BAY 1) TO SHARE TRANSPORT TO THE VENUE – DEPARTING AT 6-40PM.
The first two races of the season at Denby and Teversal saw the Belper Harriers combined team securing a very creditable second place finish on both occasions. Our men’s and women’s teams now stand in third place in their respective league tables (with our girls in a particulary strong position); while the combined team are in second behind leaders Heanor RC – and holding a very clear lead over third-placed Sutton Harriers.
It’s now down to building on this excellent start to our campaign by once again by getting as many of our best runners out as possible and also fielding another sizeable team at Shipley. I’m sure that we will be able to consolidate, or even improve on, our league positions in this 3rd race. I know that the guys at Heanor have become increasingly concerned of late that Belper Harriers could even be in a position to relieve them of their hold on the league title this year!
For the benefit of our newer runners: Here are some general details about the league races… These races are suitable for all standards of runner. The first 7 men and the first 3 ladies will count towards the team score. However, every runner is important in contributing to our team position through pushing scoring runners from competitor clubs down the finishing order. All runners must wear club vests for league races. I now have new supplies available for purchase – which I will have with me on Tuesday. If, for any reason, you do end up running without a club vest, please do not run through the finish funnel at the end of the race, as the rules allow for team disqualification if you do so. There is no cost to the runner when competing for the team in these races. Two Grand Prix bonus points will be awarded to runners in all league races and 1 point to supporters. These are then doubled if you attend all five races – making a maximum of 20 points up for grabs
