After a two minutes silence the field of 185 runners set off on the two lap course over Chaddesden Park. The Harriers team of twenty-three runners, a number of regulars missing for various reasons, produced some excellent individual performances. Leading the Harriers home was Tom Molder in 12th position while Tim Hollings had a determined run to finish in 20th place. Simon Edwards was our next finisher following his recovery from injury in 36th place and from thereon it was a procession of Harriers packing the field. This is the strength of the club with Marcus Handford 38th, Rob Norman 40th, Dave Horton 44th, Andy Rose 46th, and Craig Allen 49th. These guys should be well pleased with performances and should be looking for even better. Further down the field we had Andy Dakin having a storming run while Sam Horton made his first legitimate run in the Booths League finishing in 103rd place. Once again the usual reliable men were out in force doing their bit for the club.
For the ladies Theresa Hempsall was our first finisher in 75th place with Rosemary Arris, Georgina Bestwick and Jo Southcott making up the ladies team.
Overall in the combined team event, the club came fifth, seventh in the ladies and fifth in the mens. These positions were down on what we normally achieve but are certainly retrievable with three races still to come. So with a little bit of persuasion, hopefully more of our members will be encouraged to run in the following races.
In the pavilion after the race there were the presentations by Lois Booth for the Summer League Races. Unfortunately due to a lack of publicity there were only three of us to pick up the various awards for the club and age category winners. The club picked up second in the team event, second in the mens and third in the ladies. There were also four individual awards with Steph Ilsley winning the ladies over 45 age group. Dale Annable took third place in the senior men while Roger Morgan won the over 55 age group and Malcolm Weir took the over 60 award.
