Personal Bests at Local Races
Last weekend saw a number of our runners in action in two tough half-marathons and a marathon. On the Saturday it was the White Peak Marathon and Half-Marathon on the High Peak Trail.
In the marathon, Andy Basey had a great day, recording a personal best of 3hrs 14mins 17secs to finish 14th in the race. Jim Naismith was another Harrier in the race finishing in 4hr 16mins 22secs to finish 123rd out of a field of 180 finishers.
The half-marathon saw Simon Swanborough, Ian Hays and Chris Jackson all recording personal bests. Simon running a half-marathon for the first time finished in the excellent time of 1hr 30mins 28secs in 31st place. Just three places later, Ian Hays finished right on 1hr 31mins to record a personal best. A little further down in 86th position Chris Jackson finished in 1hr 45min 13secs and yes another personal best.

Eyam Half-Marathon
As you would expect for a race around this part of Derbyshire, there would be plenty of hills on the route but this did not deter Steph Ilsley and Rob Pearce from taking on this tough race. Steph finished 52nd and first female over 45 in a time of 1hr 38mins 2secs while Rob who is running his best since joining the club recorded a time of 1hr 51mins. This race attracted 407 runners and could become more popular as a couple of half-marathons have gone to the wall in neighbouring Nottinghamshire.
Well done to all the runners who ran in more moderate temperatures before the warm weather arrived this week.
On a warm evening at Middleton Top, Wirksworth where the Tunnels and Trails 10k was held, Ron Ilsley finished 6th in a time of 40mins 43secs while Steph Ilsley finished 22nd in 45mins 42secs. Unfortunately they were the only runners from the club in the race where all the profits go to charity.

Hairy Helmet 4-Stage Relays
The second year of this event will take place on Friday June 15th at 7pm from Darley Abbey Cricket Club in Darley Park. Last year the club had a number of teams in this race and those who took part returned very positive views about the event. Each leg is of 2 miles and for those interested in running, email or see me at training, so that we can get the teams sorted before the closing date. At the end of the race there is a free pint of real ale or an alternative drink, all for £3 per runner. For more information see the website article.

Sunday Morning Run
This Sunday May 27th at 9.30am Steve Meath has arranged a run over part of the Rugby Rover course. For those who are interested, meet in the Devonshire car park, for approximately an hour to an hour and a quarters running.

It was great to see so many members at training last Tuesday for the new club photograph. I am sure it will be an asset to the website and for those who did not make it on time or could not make Tuesday; we will try and take more individual photographs at the forthcoming races.
Once again thanks to Gavin and Tim Hollings for their efforts in the arranging and taking of the photographs.
