Booth Decorators League
A very muddy well done to all the runners who ran in the first Booth Decorators X-country League race at Shipley Park on Sunday morning.
The club had twenty four runners on the start line, in the field of 213 finishers who completed the course of approximately five miles. This year the course was reversed from previous years and a lot more muddier than other years, no doubt due to the high volume of rain throughout the summer months.
The club has got off to a highly satisfactory start, finishing seventh in the combined team event out of the thirteen teams. This season Matlock AC and Derwent Runners have joined the league and it looks very much like they have improved the standard.
In saying that, the overall standard within Belper Harriers has improved, so it was no surprise to see the men finishing in third spot while the ladies finished ninth.
Tim Hollings lead the team home finishing 8th in the strong field and it was good to see Geoff Lowry and Andy Fookes back. Particular mention must go to Simon Edwards, Gavin Elliott, Craig Allen and Georgina Bestwick who all had particularly good runs.
Having their first introduction in the X-country league were Amanda Postle, Helen Soiris and Steve Groves.
Well done to all our runners who should be well pleased with their performances and similar results can be achieved if we can get our runners out in the forthcoming fixtures.
It was also good to have the support of so many family members of our runners over the course.
The next BDL race is at Chaddesden Park on Sunday November 11th and if you missed this one, come and join the team, in trying to improve the club’s place in the league placings.
This Saturday October 20th the first race in the North Midlands X-country league starts at Markeaton Park. The ladies race starts at 1.25pm and the men’s at 1.55pm. The men’s race is over 10k while the ladies is over 6k.
