North Midlands Cross-Country
There was only a small number of Harriers who ran in the first North Mids Cross-Country on Saturday at Markeaton Park. On a pleasant afternoon ideal for running but on a course extremely heavy in parts, we saw some excellent performances in both the ladies and men’s races from our runners.
In the ladies race over 6k, two laps of the park, Theresa Hempsall had a good run finishing 24th beating some top runners from the Midlands area. Following Theresa was Sharon Mellors, good to see Sharon back in action and then the consistent Jane Armoush, followed by Helen Soiris having an excellent run at this level.
The ladies did particularly well having a full team and finishing tenth out of the twenty completed teams.
In the men’s race over 10k, three laps of the park, Matt Lewis on his debut finished 99th an excellent run against the strong field. Amer Armoush was our next finisher, running a good race in the conditions while Malcolm Weir and Steve Groves both ran solid races to finish the race strongly. Andy Fookes having his second race on his comeback from injury should be well pleased with his performance over the tough conditions.
All the results from the meeting can be found on www.northmidsxcleague.co.uk.
Well done to both Mark Riches and Tim Boursnell who ran in this televised half-marathon last Sunday morning.
Mark finished in 1hr 35mins and Tim in 1hr 39mins.
