BDL Carsington Race Report

BDL Carsington
It was a scorcher of an evening at Carsington Water for the fourth race of the summer league season. On a slightly shorter course than usual of 4.5 miles, twenty five Harriers turned out to run the out and back race in the field of 231 finishers.

Running his first race of the series, Andy Basey ran a brilliant race to become the first Harrier home in 18th place. Following Andy just seconds behind was Ed James in 19th place while there were also many other good performances from the men for the team to finish 3rd on the night.

For the ladies Charlotte Dye made her long awaited debut and finished as a number of us expected in the top quarter of the field. Charlotte can be well pleased with her first run for the club and I am sure it will have given her a great deal of confidence and pleasure to know she has beaten many experienced and seasoned athletes.

There were eight ladies running for the club including Steph Ilsley who is still not cleared to run as a counter in the BDL competition. Of those it was good to see Helen Soiris back in competition after a long injury layoff helping the ladies team to finish 5th on the night.

The combined team came fourth which is a creditable performance considering the strength of some of the teams and going into the final race in four weeks time the club are standing at fifth position in the team event, fourth in the men’s and sixth in the ladies. There is still opportunity to finish higher if we can produce a good strong turnout of runners at Shipley in the final race.

The other runners who ran at Carsington were:
Jack Dakin, Shaun Bott, Andy Rose, Dave Horton, Simon Edwards, Amer Armoush, Mark Riches,
Craig Allen, Steve Meath, Malcolm Weir, Rob Pearce, Dan Clark, Simon Hackett, Tim Boursnell and Dave Chadwick.
Jane Armoush, Theresa Hempsall, Claire Pearce, Rachel Clark and Rosemary Arris.
