Midland Counties Relays
A contingent of Belper Harriers took the short trip down the A38 to Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield to run in the Midland Region 6-Stage Relays. This was only the second occasion Belper Harriers have competed in the 6-Stage Relays, the other occasion two years ago when we ran at Warrington in the Northern Region Relays.
The clubs in Derbyshire do have the choice of competing at either the Midlands or Northern Championships and being the Midland event is nearer to Belper, this year we chose to go to Sutton Park.
It was a wonderful autumn afternoon for the event but after the warm temperatures of the past couple of months this did not deter the runners.
Our team of Jack Dakin, Ben Rhodes, Andy Rose, Rob Norman, Steve Meath and Simon Hackett did the club proud by finishing 64th out of 101 teams who started the race.
The course of 5.85k over the one lap undulating course was an ideal test for the runners where in three weeks time the National 6-Stage Relays will take place with the top twenty-five teams from each region battling it out for top club team in the country.
The individual times for our runners were: Jack Dakin 21.51 Ben Rhodes 22.16 Andy Rose 23.21 Rob Norman 24.39 Steve Meath 25.29 and Simon Hackett 25.30.
This was a great experience for our runners which they all responded to, giving their all and running some excellent times. Not forgetting Len Foulks who came along as a reserve and supported the team. Well done to all.
National Cross-Country Relays
These take place at Berry Hill Park for the final time on Saturday November 2nd. For the past number of years this event has been held at Berry Hill Park but the agreement with the landowners will expire after this years race.
The Senior Men’s team is four runner per team while the ladies is three runners per team. As this is a national event there will be no charge as the club will pay for the entries. So while the event is just down the road, take the opportunity to run in the relays and lets have a few teams out from Belper Harriers.
This Thursday 27th September will see our first visit to the track for training. We will have access to the facilities from 7.15 until 8.15. Meet at the track or if you wish to car share, 6.40 at Belper Leisure Centre car park.
