On a perfect evening for running an excellent number of 34 runners turned up for the first Handicap of the Winter Season. Of those 31 ran off their handicapped times while the other three were unhandicapped.
It was not surprising there were some fast times recorded by many of our runners. Jack Dakin ran the fastest time of the evening and another personal best. Another sub 40 which has taken some hard work went to Dave Horton. There were many other targets achieved by the runners and these should be a good start to build upon.
There were eight runners making their 10k Handicap debut and one of these, Matt Parr came back first and won the monthly trophy. Other runners making their debuts were Paula Duddles, Yasmin Henchliffe, Meg McHarg, Gemma Brady, Tom Rowlands, Dan Barrass and Andy MacAlister.
The only problem of the evening was the dark stretch outside Ambergate to the turn around. This is something which we will have to look at and sort out before the next Handicap on Tuesday November 5th.
So well done to all the runners and I hope you will be back for the next Handicap. Thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the evening, Richard, Pete, Amer, Jane and Ian and Shaun at the turn around.
Thanks also to Steve and his staff at the Devonshire for their hospitality.
Shaun Bott ran the Chester Marathon last weekend recording a time of 3hrs 2mins and 45secs. This was a personal best by Shaun, beating his previous best by five minutes. A sub three hour is on the horizon. Well done Shaun.
