A couple of free lectures at Derby Uni that may be of interest, the Tuesday one is a tad inconvenient!
University of Derby – Kedleston Road Tuesday 18 March, 7.00pm – 8.00pm Dr Matt Higgins: Nutrition and Hydration for Endurance Performance
With the Derby 10k run less than two months away, it is timely to provide guidance for everyone who runs regularly, about the scientific principles of nutrition and hydration for ‘steady-state’ (i.e. mid-long distance running/cycling) endurance performance. The talk will also include practical recommendations for those interested in or currently undertaking endurance exercise. Specific topics will include; energy/sports drinks versus water for hydration, carbohydrate ‘loading’ and the influence of weather/fitness level on nutrition and hydration practice.
University of Derby – Kedleston Road Wednesday 19 March, 7.00pm – 8.00pm Jennifer Wilson: Should we go barefoot running?
Based on current trends in the scientific literature and anecdotal evidence, there is a growing argument for disposing with expensive running shoes and running barefoot instead. But does this mean we should all convert to barefoot or at least minimalist running shoes? This talk will provide evidence for and against barefoot running as well as giving practical recommendations for those considering conversion to a minimalist shoe.
