Final BDL Race
The last race of the BDL summer league took place at Shipley Cricket Club, Shipley Park organised by Heanor Running Club. On a humid evening, the 283 runners set off around the park over a 5.2 mile course of multi-terrain.
Considering it was the height of the holiday season and a number of injuries to runners who usually run in the league races, the club still managed to get 28 runners in the race.
Our first finisher was once again Ben Rhodes finishing in ninth place. Ben has run in the last three races and has made massive progress over the last twelve months. Our second finisher was Ed James in 15th place with Robert Dennes making his debut finishing in 24th position.
Right through the Belper team there was the usual consistent performances with two other runners making their first appearances for the club and another making her return to the club. Joel Paisley and Callum Hyndman both students at Belper School made their debuts while it was good to see Amy Robinson return to the club.
Charlotte Dye had another good run to finish first lady for the club and like Ben should make good progress over the coming months.
Overall it was a good night for the Harriers with the men finishing fourth, the ladies fourth and the combined team fourth. This over the five race series of eleven clubs, Belper Harriers finished third in the men’s, fourth in the ladies and the combined team was third. This proved to be one of our better years in the BDL summer series with a consistent number of runners in the five races.
The other runners at Shipley were:
Jack Dakin, Craig Allen, Dave Horton, Simon Edwards, Chris Jordan, Andy Marsden, Sean Ollier, Rob Norman, Malcolm Weir, Simon Hackett, Rob Pearce, Richard Mayne, Andy Dakin, James Budzymki, Amer Armoush, John Maddock and for the ladies Theresa Hempsall, Rosemary Arris, Helen Brunt, Clare Cooper and Linda Simmonds.
Over the five race series special mention must go to five of our runners who turned out in all the five races. Well done to Linda Simmonds, Rosemary Arris, Theresa Hempsall, Dave Horton and Rob Pearce.
Over the summer we have had five excellent races and the response from the membership has been wonderful, so thanks and well done to every member who ran in any of the races or helped at the Harrier’s race at Denby.
We now have a couple of months off before the Cross-Country starts in October with two more Specials before the Autumn.
Next Tuesday August 12th will be at the Leisure Centre depart 7.30pm.
