BDL Chaddesden Park
The second cross-country of the Booth Decorators League took place last Sunday morning at Chaddesden Park Derby. This seems to be the most popular of the courses, attracting 272 runners from the twelve clubs, including a tremendous turnout of 29 runners from Belper Harriers.
Over the two lap course of 4.5 miles, including four runs through the stream, saw some impressive performances from our team.
Our first finisher was Geoff Lowry in ninth position who is certainly running in a ‘purple patch’ at the moment. Geoff was followed by Ed James and Jack Dakin who finished 18th and 19th. Dave Horton, Krishna Mahedevan, Joel Paisley and Rob Norman made up the remainder of the seven male counters.
Making his début for the club was Andy Paisley, Joel’s dad who finished an excellent 79th position. It was good to see a couple of our long-standing members back in cross-country action, Mark Riches and Phil Butt while Simon Edwards, Rob Pearce and Tim Boursnell were easing themselves back to full fitness.
The other male runners were Chris Jordan, Andy Nash, Zach Naylor, Amer Armoush, Gavin Elliott, Nick Bates, Len Foulkes, Simon Hackett and Dave Chadwick.
For the ladies Theresa Hempsall produced yet another good consistent performance to lead the ladies home. Georgina Bestwick had another strong run while Amy Robinson,
Jane Armoush, Rosemary Arris and Rachel Clark could all be well pleased with they races. Finally it was good to see Rosemary Norman back in a Belper vest and hopefully she will have more opportunities to run for the club.
In the team races, the men finished 4th, the ladies 7th and combined team finished 5th. Heanor won both the men’s and combined team event while Sutton took the ladies event.
A very well done to all the Harriers that ran and produced some excellent performances. It was a pity I could not make the race but family commitments took precedence.
The next BDL cross-country takes place on Sunday November 30th at Bakewell Showground. As this is a fair distance from Belper we will arrange car-sharing from the Leisure Centre.
This Tuesday November 11th training will be at Belper Leisure Centre. Thursday evenings training will be at Goods Road, starting at 6.30pm.
