BDL at Trent Meadows
The fourth cross-country of the BDL season took place last Sunday morning at Trent Meadows, Long Eaton. By the time the runners were on the start line, the wind had reduced and the sun was making an appearance. The twenty Harriers, a bit down on previous races took on the two lap and near to five mile course. There was plenty of standing water for the runners to negotiate with a number of sharp turns.
It would be fair to say that many of our runners had a ‘good un’ with one of our young runners, Ben Rhodes home from University, leading the club home in 10th place. He was closely followed by Ed James in 14th place with Shaun Bott in 18th position. Nathan Brickman was our next finisher in 24th position and Joel Paisley having his best BDL race yet, in 31st place. Trev Wilson was our next finisher having to dash straight off to work after the race while Chris Jordan is moving up places every race.
Following on Dave Horton just missed out on a top fifty position while Andy Paisley not letting his son have all the glory finished a highly respectable 68th. Rob Norman was back to form as our next finisher while Malcolm Weir, Andy Nash and Krishna Mahadevan all finished very close together. Rob Pearce and Simon Hackett made up the men’s team of fifteen runners.
Leading the ladies home again was Theresa Hempsall while Ruth Keeley improved upon her previous BDL cross-country. Georgina Bestwick was our next lady, followed by Helen Turner making her club debut and Rosemary Arris.
As many of you are aware, Rosemary has had a long-standing injury reducing her training while Georgina was celebrating a ‘Special Birthday’ weekend. Anyway George got a hearty chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ from the Harriers and Ilkeston RC at the next tent.
After all our efforts the men finished 3rd, the ladies 6th and as a combined team 4th. There were 221 finishers and after four of the five races we are standing in 3rd place in the men’s, 6th in the ladies and 4th in the team event. The full results will be posted upon the website in due course.
