Final BDL Race
The final race of the Booth Decorators Summer League came to an end on a showery evening at Shipley Cricket Club. The course of 5.1 miles saw 291 runners on the start line with 24 runners from the Harriers.
Once again our first runner home was the consistent Ed James in 9th position. Ed has had a good season and should be looking forward to challenging the front guys in the forthcoming BDL cross-countries.
Following Ed was Tom Moulder who is undoubtably working his way back to full race fitness and hopefully should be available for the winter races.
Our next finisher was young Cy Toplis running as a second claim runner in a Belper vest. Cy who is with Amber Valley AC is going to run second claim for us in the BDL cross-country league.
Zach Naylor was our next finisher in 51st position, closely followed by Saul Taylor having his first run in the series, Dave Horton and Trevor Wilson. A special well done to Trev who considering his injury and had he not run, could have seen the men’s team drop out of the top three.
Rob Norman was our next finisher with Mark Riches, Andy Marsden, Andy Nash, Christian Bradshaw and Amer Armoush in the next forty. Simon Hackett having a good run was our next finisher, followed by Gavin Elliot having his first summer race of the season and Ian Blessley making his debut for the Harriers. Our next finishers were the consistent Rob Pearce and Tim Boursnell.
For the ladies we had Helen Morley having a terrific run in 96th place while the other five ladies Rachel Clark, Jane Armoush, Helen Brunt, Georgina Bestwick, another member having her first run of the season and Clare Cooper could all be well pleased with their performances.
From the efforts of the runners the club on the night finished 5th in the men’s, 6th in the ladies and the combined team 5th. This result helped the club to finish overall after the five races, 3rd in the men’s, 7th in the ladies and 6th in the combined team.
Over the five race series we have seen some tremendous performances, runners who have run some consistent races and others who have improved throughout the season. This year we have had two runners who ran in all five, Dave Horton and Andy Nash. A special well done to Dave and Andy. There was also a large number who ran in four of the races.
As improving over a season goes, Zach Naylor must deserve a mention. His first race at Ilkeston he recorded a finishing place of 114th and finished at Shipley in 51st position while at the other races in between he improved in each race.
A well done to all runners who turned out for the club over the season and in around two months time we will be into the cross-country season. The five race season will have the dates confirmed at the BDL September meeting.
