Weekly update part 1. By Cat J

A busy week of racing kicked off on Monday 24th June with the annual Duffield 5. A great local race which begins a week filled with off road running fun!

Notable performances from Simon Fisher who was 4th overall, Nathan Brickman came 5th followed by Ed James in 6th. David Horton & Mark Woodward began what would be a very successful week for them both and claimed 1st & 3rd super vet.

-In contrast to last year’s scorching heat, it finally stopped raining on Tuesday just before the start of the Riber Run. Nine intrepid Harriers donned their fell shoes and put in sparkling performances. This is a race to suit all tastes (apart from those who love flat routes…) Fantastic running in particular by Louise Rowley who was first female, and Simon Fisher who was 2nd overall. David Horton claimed 1st M50 with Mark Woodward hot on his heels coming in 2nd M50.

A short but tough race and definitely one for the calendar next year!

-The Hope Wakes fell race on Wednesday attracted another 9 eager to run Harriers. David Horton described the race as starting with a gentle climb up onto the ridge, down the other side, then a lung busting climb through the woods until you emerge above the tree line and see the top of Win Hill taunting you across an inclined hillside of heather. Once you reach the top (which was shrouded in clouds) your legs turn to jelly as you try to negotiate the short rocky scramble before an exhilarating descent all the way back into hope valley. A top class field of runners and a great race!

What a fantastic set of results and it’s not even the end of the week yet! (There’s more running fun available this weekend too!!!)
