A quieter weekend than most, but still lots of fabulous achievements by club members!
10 Harriers competed in the Robin Hood Half Marathon on the 29th September. In David Horton’s own words…The weather had the potential to be dreadful, but aside from steadily increasing wind, it really wasn’t that bad. It’s quite a hilly course, and the last 400m across the grass was more like the Chesterfield BDL than a road race, which would surely have been quite a quagmire as the race went on. A superb effort from all, but especially to Dave Heslop who stormed in at 29th in a time of 1:20:35, on a race he was regarding as a bit of a training run…
There were many other swift performances including Lawrence Cox who just managed to finish sub 1:30 and ran 1:29:59. Ruth Keeley also put in a sterling performance and was 3rd in her age category with 1:36:46. David Horton, Thomas Moulder, Paul Romney, Darren Singleton, Simon Hackett, Kelly Wigley and Annie Sloane also completed the race. A fabulous effort by all in the rather damp weather!
On Sunday 30th, Nicky Owen ran the Rodbaston 10k.This cross country style race at Rodbaston Hall in Staffordshire is described as a fun and friendly race taking you through rolling fields, woodlands and a few shallow streams… Nicky finished in 54:13, was first in her age category, & 4th lady overall! A cracking result!
The weather is certainly starting to feel more autumnal but that doesn’t seem to be stopping club members from working hard and running their socks off!
