We have a varied training programme in the club but the centre of our running is our Tuesday night Club runs. Meeting at Belper Leisure Centre at 730pm prompt, we mix up various abilities and various routes in both summer and winter to give great road and offroad sessions.
If you have a work down the Training menu (above) you will get a flavour for what to expect on Tuesday runs, Thursday sessions, where we go, what pace we run at and how we mix it up with Handicap 5 milers and local “Pub Runs”.
Tuesday Runs : These are the backbone of the club. We welcome all abilities spread across 4 groups leaving 730 prompt. 5 miles up to 10miles+
Tuesday Routes : Examples of the routes we use on Tuesday’s are available via the menu above. We normally rotate these and they are announced (via Facebook) a few days before.
Thursday Sessions : More focused training around Belper typically hill reps or speed work.
Summer and Winter Handicap : Our 2 routes start with slower runners setting off from 715pm, faster runners setting off later with the aim being to all finish at approx the same time with a debrief in the pub after. Results are all up on the results page. Refer to the menu option for more information about pace.
Pub Specials (aka Pub Runs) are fun runs typically within 30 mins drive from Belper and normally 5-9 miles with two on offer, starting and finishing at a pub with sandwiches and chips afterwards. Always social affairs, but don’t wear your best shiny trainers !
Belper Harriers Club Champs : The Annual Club Champs is a series of events collated into a points system to which we award the winners a trophy each year. 2016 will see an increased prominence of championship races in the Harriers’ Race Diary, a regularly updated leader board throughout the year, and the awarding of Mens’ and Ladies’ trophies at the end of the year. We want to get people out racing locally !
Belper Harriers Fell Series : Many of us have been bitten by the fell running bug. Running in the hills and mountains of the UK can be inspirational, but at first it can be intimidating. There’s lots of us in the club who travel around the UK for races at weekends, so again keep your eyes on Facebook – we travel together to most of these events. Have a read through the “Races / Fell Races” and “Races / Fell Series” menu pages and join us if it sounds like your thing.
Weekend Runs : Meet ups are more informal – varying paces, varying distances, normally sorted out via Facebook or on Tuesday / Thursday runs. These typically ramp up in the “pre marathon” season of Jan thru April.
